What are dental implants?
Dental implants are little screws, that are carefully placed onto the jawbone, to act as artificial roots of teeth. Dental implants are used to support crowns, bridges or to retain a denture and are now considered to be the ‘gold standard’ solution to replacing missing teeth.
The success rate of dental implants are as high as 98% and provided that they are maintained and cared, the treatment should provide a reliable and longstanding solution to replacing missing teeth.
Amazing experience from start to finish. I had some dental implants fitted. They feel great and I can chew properly again. I would recommend Kidsgrove Dental.

What a friendly bunch of people here. Normally I'm absolutely petrified of coming to the dentist but the staff here have been terrific with me. I started off having a few fillings and crowns to put everything right. Once I got used to coming here I've had a few dental implants fitted to fill the gaps in. My teeth have never felt better in my whole life. Great job Kidsgrove Dental & Implant Centre!
KIEREN CHILDS
Receptionists are really helpful and lovely. Gary is very efficient, had my braces on for just over a month and super happy with the process!
LORNA GALLAGHER
I lost my front tooth from a sports injury and went to Kidsgrove Dental to discuss my options and we decided to have an implant placed. Throughout my time, the whole process was explained clearly to me and the whole process was less painful than what I expected. I am glad that I went through the entire treatment; the implant feels and looks even better than my original tooth. Highly recommended!

Dental implants are a permanent replacement for your natural teeth. The crown or bridge is the tooth part and the implant is not visible after it heals beneath the surface of the gum to the bone tissue. Looking after these dental implants is not much different to the way you would look after your natural teeth. Sometimes implants are placed next to natural teeth. Patients may have one, two or a full mouth reconstruction. Making sure you brush twice daily with the correct brushing technique, use a fluoride containing toothpaste and chlorhexidine mouthwash, and floss at least once a week helps to prevent tartar and plaque build-up. Chewing sugar-free gum after meals also contributes to good oral hygiene. Avoiding any damage to the implant site is crucial, so gentle brushing and eating of soft foods initially is recommended. Visiting our dental hygienist for regular check-ups will also help to maintain both your natural and implant teeth.
After your initial consultation at one of our dental implant centres in Stoke on Trent, you may decide to delay your treatment for a time, and this can suitably be arranged. You may also wish to consider other options for replacing your missing or damaged teeth, such as partial or full dentures and bridges. Partial dentures or a bridge can be easily anchored to your natural teeth. Full dentures can also be worn long-term by replacing and relining the dentures for healthy wear. All these options can be discussed with our dentist who is looking forward to meeting you, and to helping you learn more about your oral hygiene for a healthier you.
What is a implant?
Implants are almost like natural teeth. They have a titanium root, an upper connector called an abutment, and the visible white portion called a crown.

There is a minimal pain
Getting a dental implant doesn't require any drilling of your adjacent teeth. The implant is placed in the jaw bone and does not have any pain nerves. There are minimal pain and easier recovery than most other dental procedures.

What does the dental implant procedure involve?
To achieve this level of integration, it is important to be examined by a qualified and experienced dental professional. The procedure will happen in stages, typically:
• The initial stage of the procedure would be to undertake a thorough examination to identify any signs of gum disease and assess the quality of the bone.
• Next, a CBCT 3D scan will be arranged to assess the quality and density of your bone material and to check the shape of the area before any work takes place. We have our own 3D scanner on-site.
• Under anaesthesia, the bone is gently prepared for the titanium implant. The gum is re-closed by stitching or grafting, and then it is left to heal.
The bone tissue itself will grow and begin to anchor itself upon the specially designed textured surface of the titanium implant. During this healing process, patients are given a temporary bridge or denture.
After healing, the gum can be lifted to attach a healing cap to the implant. Four to six weeks later, when the gum has matured, the final permanent work can be completed.
Is dental implant procedure painful?
When you are given a local anaesthetic or non-unconscious sedation, you will not feel pain during or shortly after the procedure. As the anaesthetic wears off, you may feel some discomfort, and while the implants are healing, there may be some inflammation and tenderness. Each patient also feels varied levels of pain according to how they are made. You can discuss any fears you have with our resident dentist and also your needs in pain-management. Our implant dentist will discuss with you how to reduce and treat any discomfort or tenderness, so that your mouth feels back to normal.
How long do dental implants last?
Dental implants are used internationally, and are long-lasting with a very high success rate. Research has shown that some people wear their dental implants up to thirty years. For strong teeth and gums, it is recommended to follow oral hygiene guidelines and to see our resident dentist periodically for a check-up. By doing so, we can help you identify any challenges with your oral health early and provide you with the relevant treatment you need.
